On the iPod: "In Da Club" -- 50 Cent
The good news: Great run this morning after an amazing night at the beach. We swam in the ocean after midnight with some teachers from Utah and St. Louis. Great fun. The water was completely calm and relaxing. Made me think of "Nightswimming", an excellent tune by R.E.M.
I headed out down the main strip in the opposite direction than yesterday, toward the Don Cesar, a magnificent grand-daddy of a resort. The cabbie from the airport told me that that the Don Cesar was originally a hospital in the 1940's and was converted to a hotel after WWII was over. It's clearly high-end. Towering over the shores of the gulf, she sits in the middle of the strip, the flagship resort of St. Pete's Beach.
With the heat bearing down and me sweating profusely, I took a break and went in the lobby. It was impressive to say the least. The lounge had one of the longest couches i've ever seen in my life. Longer than the 15-foot couch in Graceland. They also had complimentary copies of the New York Times. I love reading the Times. It's the best. After trying to figure out a way to carry a copy of the Times back with me while running, I gave up on the endeavor and headed back out emptyhanded. The run back was great, the heat having cranked up a bit even more.
The bad news? I only packed two moisture-wicking shirts, so if I run again i'm going to have to run in stanky clothing. So stay back, everybody.
I am so proud of you for getting up and jogging after a midnight swim. I know you are having a great time. I hope Wednesday goes as well as the first few days have gone. Enjoy your week! and eat good seafood for me!
