filthy phil's

Miles today: 2.6 (thanks to google maps)
on the iPod: "We Might As Well Be Strangers" -- Keane

Day two in St. Pete's Beach started with a great run down the main drag. If I passed one high-rise condo and cheap, trashy souvenir shop, I passed a million. These beach towns are all the same and I absolutely love them. My family grew up going to the beach for a week every summer and I have great memories of those vacations.

My run was pretty non-eventful but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Last night the bartender at the beachside tiki bar suggested a restaurant called Filthy Phil's for oysters on the half-shell and boiled shrimp, so I figured I'd run down that way to check it out. While I didn't have the opportunity to meet Filthy Phil this morning (he's probably sleeping it off?), his restaurant looks like a place that i'd fit right in. I'll be heading back tonight when Michelle gets here from DC. It's gonna be great to see my friend, she's a total mess. Just like me.

Above is a picture of where i'm staying for the week, the Tradewinds Sandpiper. The sand in my toes is great. The water is even better.

  1. Sounds wonderful--both the run and the location in general.

I've always loved traveling, but becoming a runner has allowed me to see new (as well as familiar) places in a completely different light. (I'm hoping to see San Francisco in that different light when my wife and I travel there later this week for her sister's wedding.)

By the way, have you ever used the MapMyRun Web site? I like it for checking mileage after (and sometimes before) running a new route: http://www.mapmyrun.com/

    Happy travels!
