a glutton for punishment

miles yesterday: 3.7
on the iPod: "Company Calls Epilogue" -- Death Cab For Cutie

For some bizarre reason i'm drawn to running when it's hot as hell outside. But yesterday was ridiculous. Awful. Funky hot. And I loved every minute of it. There's something about completely sweating out every last ounce of energy, will, and determination that is cleansing to my soul. It makes laying by the pool afterward that much sweeter. And the pool is where I almost always head after a long run.

So this Saturday i'm slated for a 12-miler. Haven't gone that distance since the Bentonville Half back in April. With the July humidity raging as it has been, i'm considering stashing an extra tech shirt somewhere along the trail so that I can change mid-way through the run. I'll be damned if i'm gonna run soaked in sweat like I did last weekend. So the other option would be just to ditch my shirt somewhere and go back to get it. Hmmm. Not for sure what to do. Please vote now.

I'll be headed to Chicago this time next week and am excited to see Jason and Sarah. Love those kids. We're going to a Cubs/Cards game, will be my first time at Wrigley Field. Excellent! Also planning to run Grant Park on Friday morning. It'll be like an introduction to the marathon for me. I love running in big cities. There's always a really high-end energy that fuels me to enjoy the run. It's gonna be a great long weekend. And it couldn't come at a better time. Clearly.

  1. Oooh, I love running in the heat too. I ran yesterday and it was so muggy, it took me a half mile just to get my lungs stretched out and able to handle the yucky humidity.
Good luck with your 12 miler, you are more of a runner than I am. I stick to around 3 miles.
MY VOTE: Just ditch the shirt or tuck it in the back of your shorts when you get too sweaty. That way it may dry and be able to be used as a towel later on.
Have a great time in Chicago seeing Jason and Sara. Please give them both a hug for me! ABaker
