on the iPod: "Superman" -- R.E.M.
Got up early and ran solo this morning. As much as i'm enjoying training with Mrs. Pugh and Mrs. Murie, i'm totally cool with running solo. It gives me time to process thoughts and to be thankful for all that I have in life. I'm such a lucky guy and am humbled by my surroundings. I'm gonna need my running partners in August and September, however, when the mileage gets bigger.
Within the first mile my right contact lens flew out of my eye. Really. I have no idea what in the heck happened. It just up and decided to bail. So I got down on my hands and knees to look for it. One nice runner stopped to help, many more didn't even think about it. For all they knew I could have been looking for anything. Something much more important than a disposable contact lens. After a couple of minutes of looking to no avail, I kept going. But it made me think quite a bit about what I would have done if I passed another runner on his hands and knees obviously looking for something. Would I have stopped or kept going? I'd like to think that I would have stopped.
It never fails that I see friends and neighbors on the Fayetteville trail system. Today I passed my orthodontist, Jesse Gray. He did an amazing job correcting my bite last year. Not to mention that my teeth look immensely better. Good teeth are important. That's what my mom says, anyway. Nevertheless, Dr. Gray is a big ole dude like me and i'm pretty sure he had on a pair of Brooks as well. I know he's run Chicago before and i'm pretty sure that he's registered for the 2010 race as well.
Also saw some guy who's nipples were bleeding. Gross. Got two words for ya, buddy: wear bandaids.
A pair of Nip Guards might help that dude as well...
